PND-designed Tenakee Springs Ferry Terminal gives hope to remote town
Originally constructed in 1977, with minimal upgrades in the mid-1990s, the old Tenakee Springs facility was becoming a safety hazard. The dock was missing safety railings, and many components of the 44-year-old dock were failing. PND Engineers, Inc. was retained by DOT&PF as the engineer of record to design an improved replacement facility. Prior to construction, access to the dock was limited to pedestrian and ATV access. The new facility provides access for service vehicles, allowing for maintenance access and easier loading/unloading capabilities for baggage cart trucks on Alaska Marine Highway System ferries servicing the community. The project was completed in November 2020.
